Anyone done this mod with the Legmaker Mid tube from Moe's? The cost would end up being about the same as a S & B intake (at least for those of us in the states). I like the idea of keeping the factory airbox and custom painting it once I get home from my deployment. Looking at the Legmaker Mid tube I think it would only increase airflow over the factory tube but and the custom touch I would like under the hood.

Justin

As an alternative... this guy said that this set up only cost around $40.00.

Got mine done. Just a note though.... On mine it had a foam seal on the inner fender. The new snorkel has a much thicker "lip" around the inlet than my stock one. I had to grind it down to about 1/4" to match the stock one to get it to go in there. Without trimming it down, it was mashing the crap out of the foam and distorting it.

Now I'm thinking... Was I supposed to remove the foam? Either way, it's in there and it's all good now.

For everyone that has done this upgrade... Did anyone else have to grind down the inlet? I don't have to the necessary tools to do that if required.

Any one else who installed these parts feel any increase in power? I did it and don't feel much if any increase.

I didnt feel a noticeable difference, but that read-out from the OP's tuner tells the tale. We already have a "cold air intake" on these trucks from the factory. We pull air from outside the engine bay. The new air inlet hole is twice as large. The new air filter also allows twice as much air through it.

For around $100, I dont see how you can go wrong with this upgrade...

I did trim about a 1/4 inch off the edge of the inlet to match the original one. I used a pair of metal snips. Worked great and fits perfect. Not to snug on the foam seal.

I'm glad that I'm not crazy. I thought that I was the only one. Started to think I did something wrong. LOL

Worst case scenario.... go to the "Dollar Store" and buy a disposable razor knife. It's just thin plastic.

Razor knife, I have. When I read "grind", in the earlier post, I was thinking I would need a grinder, which I do not have. I've never worked on my own vehicle before, as it has always been my daily driver, and I can't the time without it, if I screw something up. This upgrade seems fairly straight forward, and probably something I can do.

Trying another little free mod. The factory air intake gets it's air from the fender but there isn't a real good flow into that part of the fender except around the passenger headlight and from under the truck. I pulled the grill off and saw a spot I could cut a hole into that would feed it fresh air going down the road. The Cummins trucks take air from around the same spot. Pretty simple to make the cut with a Dremel. Yes I know my cuts suck but it won't be seen unless the grill comes off[emoji4] Keep in mind with the honeycomb grill this could be a LOT more obvious.

I'll post later if this actually helps with intake temps or not.1103d3c09602df0f9364eb60a00f2209.jpg64c62fc0e49018780686f1b5e2aef77b.jpg33d6c6874dad8be45842c7bf6c39ebee.jpg00474e7088fb4f16e972d5c5fcb75b4c.jpg

The one nice thing of taking from well is there is little duct in there, will be interesting if this will make air filer more dirty.

I was thinking about this as well. I'll post about that too since pollen season is about to start here...

Might be worth installing a cheap "filter" to cover the hole made of a screen door type material just to keep debris out of the hole.

but then you just shot yourself in the foot to save the foot you just shot yourself in. wait, did that make sense?

Well was not expecting this. Normally the intake temps with the stock intake hover around 8° above ambient temp. It usually takes a while driving to get down to that 8° above. With that hole cut in the grill backing it dropped much quicker and settled to about 4° above ambient temp. I honestly was expecting a degree or 2 cooler intake temps but not a 50% drop. The 62.60° reading on my Trinity kept dipping to 61.80° and then up to 62.60° so I figured 62 was a good middle ground. Pretty impressive. I'll update on if my air filter gets dirty quicker also.893561014d812b1032dfcac163f30b54.jpge9770f27409e53f9bcfba8b73e0340b4.jpg

More air, more dirt. But, sounds like a worth while upgrade, just replace the air filter a little sooner or make sure to check it every 6 mos or so? Knowing you I bet you check it more often then that already. So now you have a CAI but outside engine bay, and if I was to have a cai, that is what I'd prefer too. Never understood cai inside a hot engine bay.
