I remember the GM vehicles of the past.........any aftermarket clutch fan roared.....only OEM did not
I'd sure like to know who makes them for Ram.

Huge swing in price for OE.

Wonder why it is so hard for them not to roar.

Gonna do a muffler delete soon, hope it's not too loud.

Depends on your type of hearing.
Would be to much drone for me with windows up.
Front windows down I could live with.

Gonna give it a shot, only costs me $60 for the stuff from Bezos.

Truck is single exhaust, no tone to it now.

That roaring noise is the clutch fan still engaged, more fully and at a temp that is lower than OEM spec. It's what I predicted in post #51. So far, I don't think i've ever heard of an aftermarket clutch fan that worked right. At least, not since I was about 16.

Aside from the noise, you may also notice it in your gas mileage too. Especially if it stays engaged even at highway speeds.

And if it stays engaged during a few good high RPM pulls, you can probably expect that nut to need an extra grunt or two to loosen, when you finally get tired of it and replace it with a OEM unit.

I ordered a small bottle of RMI 25, it wont be here for about 10 days. I will already have a new t-stat in by then, bit will just drain a bit from the radiator to add the RMI.

Looks like it acts as a water wetter, too, so that is good. We will see.

Almost 209K miles

Original water pump, viscous fan clutch, and electric fan.

Motorad 195° tstat since my cam/lifter job ~ 6 mo. ago. I DID check it on the stove, and it operated well.

Been seeing my coolant temps in the 220's occaisionally, but for the most part, they stay 201° - 210° ish.

Yesterday, I saw 230° briefly on my way home from work. Turned on my heat, and it dropped into that 200 - 210 range.

Went out again yesterday and saw 228° briefly.

When I got home, took a look, and my AGS were open. (I have not removed any vanes, yet).

This morning, I checked my coolant level in radiator and reservoir, both are full.

On my way to work, saw that brief 230° again, turned on my heat, and temp decreased and stayed 201° - 215° the rest of way to my work, ~ 20 miles.

Seems like I've seen the higher-than-I-care-for temps on first warm-up makes me think crappy t-stat, but I'm also mulling the miles on my water pump, fan clutch, and e-fan.

I'm gonna buy an OE water pump anyway, since it doesn't owe me anything, but wanted y'alls thoughts as well on the temps I'm seeing.

Ever since my radiator shat the bed a year ago, and I hit that brief 240°, I have become A N A L about trying to watch my temperatures.

Some of my customer place a photo of a loved one in the instrument cluster to not see an objectionable thing, such as a check engine light, an ABS light.... Maybe you could do that to the inconvenient temp gauge!:anitoof:

If the temperature is creeping up when sitting still the electric fan behind the radiator is bad. Also you probably have a worn out fan clutch. It sounds like the rest of the cooling system is trying to do its job.

Fan clutch was bad, I could stop the fan with my hand at full hot. Replaced with one from NAPA, but it's not the greatest as it roars at times, but was almost 1/4 the price of OE.

Electric fan was the only thing moderating my temps, IMO.

My thermostat was sluggish opening, so I have a gutless OE stat in there until my 192° Calorstat t-stats arrive from RockAuto, hopefully today. Also, I bought (but have not yet installed) an OE coolant temp sensor, since I was getting some difference in temperature with my IR temp gun compared to the EVIC readings.

I popped another P0128 code on the way in to work this morning, almost the same place where I got the P0128 the other day.

I went through 2 aftermarket clutch fans, in winter it would take forever for it to let go and my truck sounded like a city bus. You could feel the fan pulling hp from the motor and it hindered the truck warming up. I went full electric and it was the best change for me, as a bonus I have lots of room to change belts and other things now.

Hahah, I had same experience on a Chevy Silverado a few years back. I installed an Autozone fan and truly thought I was driving a heavy-duty delivery truck! It was ludicrously loud.

Yeah, mine starts out loud, then releases after 30 seconds or so of driving. I can live with it short-term, and it has a lifetime warranty. I may give a replacement a shot, and if that one is the same, get a refund, and go OE.

Do you have an infrared thermometer? When I am working on vehicles that act **** yours does I like to check the temps of each component to help me identify where my issues are.

I check the coolant temp sensor body, thermostat housing temp, inlet/outlet of the radiator, water pump, heater hoses at the bulkhead, cylinder head temps, etc. All of these locations can help identify where the issue is coming from. Checking the inlet and outlet temps on the radiator will let you know how efficient the core is working.
I would check the pressure sensor. I returned from an extended road trip ladt year and had need of a new thermostat (and coolant flush). I still had temperature fluctuations even though an infrared thermometer showed consistent temperature level. I changed the sensor and everything now show correctly.

A 195* stat means you'd likely cruise around at ~200*. If the fan and/or AGS are not kicking in until much later, then that means you'll run hotter than 200*. Of course, these trucks are set up from the factory to run 'hot'. If the AGS are staying closed, then that's gonna heat you up, no matter what you do.

My 19 Ram 1500 usually runs at 197 degrees on highway at 70mph.

Infrared isn't really deadly accurate, especially if you try to read a temp in a windy underhood environment. The thermometer lead from my DVOM is WAY more concise!

Yeah, I hear you. No coolant loss for me, still full. Just have to find out what's not happening.

I have a temp gun, gonna fire her up in about 30 minutes to see what is going on.

I had my radiator out when I did my cam job, so no obstructions, and radiatior is only ~ 1 year old.

Not sure if my AGS might be sticking or my thermostat, or if my electric fan isn't operating properly. I do not know the operating parameters for the e-fan or AGS either, or how to check the viscous fan clutch.
The default for AGS shutter position is closed, I believe. They should be closed at start up depending on ambient temperature.

Roughly the same here. Just motoring around town after a full warm I'll usually see 201-203. When pulling 7000 lbs. I will see 206-220 on hills, but it usually falls quickly on the flats.

Something I found out when I preemptively replaced my water pump and thermostat, the new OEM thermostats are 5-deg hotter than the 'old' ones.

Truck used to run at ~203/204-F; new OEM thermostat, ran at 208/210-F. I ended up getting a 195-F thermostat (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000C809FQ). I'm sure it isn't 195, but the truck runs about 198/200-F.

I do have a tuner, so I did adjust my fan temps down to 208-F on, 200-F off.

I didn't like the hotter temp of the new OEM thermostats either.

Ok everyone, some scary sh@t just happened.

Tested one of the two 192° Calorstats (thank you, @Ken226) on the stove, it seemed a little slow to open, but by the time it hit 210°, it was really open good. As it cooled through the 190's, it started closing. All good.

Installed the stat and filled the rad. Lost a little coolant, and realized I hadn't installed the temp sensor. Drained the rad a littlle and lost a little more coolant. Installed the sensor and refilled.

As I was warming up the truck, my coolant funnel crept higher and higher, almost to the point of overflow. I had to stopper it, and as I did, my phone rang was my Granddaughter on my Wife's phone.

Looked at my evic, coolant temp 226° SHIIIIIIT!!!

Shut her off, and could hear it gurgling a little, unstoppered my coolant funnel, and she sucked in a bit of coolant and immediately cooled down. After that, 190° to 195° swings.

Took a 25 mile round trip with the granddaughter and the highest temps I saw was 197° two or 3 times, and 199° for about 5 seconds once.

Looks like I am good on temps now, just have to bleed out the last little bit of air.

I like these temps so far, will get a chance thursday afternoon to run her on the interstate, I will post any changes I see in the running temps.

BTW, checking temps at the base of the coolant sensor, the infrared temp gun reads within 2° or less of my EVIC temps. Very pleased.
