I know the latest firmware fixed a blank/black screen issue. I wonder if that is what you're experiencing? Where did you get the radio from?

They'll take it back, no charge. They have a 6 month warranty if it is defective. Take a video of it not working prior to removing if you go that route.
Yes, most annoying thing ever. What a bunch of BS to force a subscription service for voice texting.

Mine is from a 2014 2500 and it typically only stops for a brief time after firmware upgrade although it has stopped seemingly without reason too.
My truck does that every once in awhile as well if it doesn't have a good data connection. In most cases the voice texting will continue to work for us that have done the conversion. When you go to use your voice texting if you're in the area where you don't have a good data connection it will sometimes give you that message. If you are in the area that has good data connection. Check and see if you have no bars at all on your apps icon and it's not showing 3G. If the issue is not with your connection there's one other option I've done in the past that actually worked. The text messaging in my 2014 RA4 stopped working. I tried everything I could not get it to work it kept saying subscription required. It's actually the main reason I bought the 2015 Radio I sold the RLK. What I ended up doing was taking the 2014 radio out of my truck and installing it in another truck where I had to enter the security code. As soon as I did that the voice texting started to work again. It has something to do when the radio reboots it says it's canceling your Uconnect subscription and for whatever reason the voice texting starts working again. You might want to give that a try and see if it helps. This is for only those of us that have done the RA4 conversion. I'm not sure if it would help for the guys that bought the trucks that came with the radios standard.
Now sure what year and model Ra4 you have (ie, -NA, -CA, -MX), or the software version you're trying to load but it should be formatted as fat32 and should have is "swdl.iso" (and maybe one more depending on the version/year).hello sorry to you of all successes ah this attempt to update my uconnect 8.4 ra4 nav but I get this checking for usb stick with an update if a usb stick with an update is detected an update can be performed there was an issue while starting the head unit. if this error persists after an ignition cycle please see your dealer.

I've got an entire list of PNs in the first 6 posts that will help you identify what year radio your have. Does it/did it work before trying to update it? (Ie the radio and USB port on the console/seat with a USB drive and music on it (not the one on the dash)?
