hello all I have been away for a while. I would like to hear the latest knowledge of the clattering on start up issues with the hemi. what if anything is fca doing about it ? my truck is about to run out of warranty, so I am concerned. thank JJJones also has anyone experienced the blue screen syndrome yet? wondering what that might be. It useally happens when the backup camera won't turn off. ??? thanks again

I just dropped my ram off for new lifters. Granted out of warranty but it's a known weakness at the dealers

A Ram Forum exclusive is that we went after this with lubrication strategies, 10 years of multiple guys trying multiple things backed with uoa's, with good success. Read the threads in my sig, all three are good info, Uncle Tony may have got some things wrong, but the scuffed lifter sides tell the story. If it is lifter tick, Redline 5w30 in warm state, and Redline 0w30 in cold states have a great chance at either killing the tick 60% of the time, or making it substantially better 90% of the time, read the poll in thread in my sig. There is a scientific reason for this, it is an oil with two rare base oils chalked full of EP (extreme pressure) additives.

If it is exhaust bolts no oil will help. There is something you can do as well, drop 15 ounces lubegard biotech in the sump right now, we call it poor man's redline. Similar science behind it but not quite as effective. What we want to know is if you dump that in was their any change in the tick at all, and how is it after 500 more miles. What oil do you run now?

FCA aint doing **** about this...

Ram Forum is though, we have killed a lot of those ticks. When we started seeing the success we started seeing, most of the testing went straight to redline, as that seemed to be the ticket. Now, it is just common knowledge around here, you have a real shot and fixing this with an oil change, I'd read the oil filter thread as well, get you some spun microglass filtration.

60% of the time it works every time :dogpile:

Sorry couldn't resist

But if you think about it that might be possible, the other 40% could have been guys voting the wrong button because people tend to vote after drinking a 12 pack just like they do in the general election.

thanks for the response. I am running whatever oil the dealer puts in it. I have purposely let them do it since new, so i can say only the dealer has ever serviced it. I do about every 3500 miles. where can I buy lubeguard ? I will try that . thanks for the help JJ

ok guys here is what I know. taking the advice of Burla, I bought some lube guard and went on a 1000 mile trip. I can honestly tell you that the start up noise is significantly reduced. I feel much better knowing that something is sticking to the cam & lifters of this engine after I shut it down. Thanks again for the help. I am surprised that this one product can make such a change.

I just created a lubegard hemi tick thread, please vote and update that thread. So if lubegard helped but not 100%, you may opt for redline 5w30 next time. A comparison at this point would be lubegard is a JDAM while Redline is a nuke for killing tick. Sometimes a JDAM works just fine, but then again sometimes you just need a nuke. But having another option then the "nuke" is a great option for less $$ and I thank you for trying it and reporting it. It is similar science to redline, but redline science is 100% of the sump, and lubegard is like dressing up a pig. In the end, the base oil is still a pig when we are talking about it's ability to nuke that tick. More hemi tick testers needed for sure.

At least now you know, you know you can alleviate some of that tick. So if that is true, then follow what others have done and kill that tick 100%, I've done it and nearly 100 guys have done it here at RF.

Redline 5w-30 and Royal Purple 20-820 Extended Life Premium Oil Filter. This filter is a larger version than the one recommended for the 5.7 Hemi in the 1500. Fits fine and has more filter area.

Nuked my Hemi tick. Smooth as glass now.

The only time I get any tick or clatter is from a short run of a couple blocks in the neighborhood. Shut off. Then retstart later and I will get clatter for a couple seconds, then gone. Maybe I should just walk..... :)

Would that be a Mk-82, 83, 84 or BLU-109...it's all about size. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30 + Lubegard = JDAM-ER
