I thought mayyybeee the bolt just needed to be tightened. But it’s tight. Is it possible the gasket on bolt is bad?? And just needs a new one ?

The pan does look really rusted though

any idea how much lift is needed for it to slide out without monkeying with the diff or lifting the engine ?

I have a 4" lift and it barely clears the pickup tube.

I've got a 6 inch bds lift with a slight rake, so not 100% sure how tall the front sits. I had to drop my pan when I installed long tube headers because my oil dipstick tube broke off and fell into the pan. I couldn't get the pan out of the way because of the pickup tube. I could barely even get the new windage tray in and out the front and around the pickup tube with some fancy maneuvering. Good luck

I replaced mine last year you do not have to jack up engine take crossmember out and then unbolt the upper axle bolts I think there is 3?. Then jack the front end up real high letting the axle drop and you will have just enough room It sucked without a lift but got it done.

Why are u replacing the pan?! That pic clearly shows the bolt is leaking. Get a new one with a new gasket and be done with it. If u were smart get a EZ drain valve and RTV or JB weld that $hit on and be done with it then u never need to pull the bolt again. Put a valve on my 18 and oil change is a snap.

Then wire brush the pan and hit it with POR15 and be done with it.

That pan doesn’t look too good. Push on it and see how thin it is from the rust. I would replace it.

ThAt pan is fine, just some surface rust on it. Wire brush, brake clean and POR15 it. Let it dry for 12-24hrs if it’s warm out and you’ll be fine. I would wire brush the rest of the rust as well and do it all at once.

I did the whole under carriage of my truck , blasted rust and threw on Tremclad Rust paint (rustoleum) in the states. I changed the pan, pump, and pick up tube when cam and lifters were done. Shop said they would have to pull the engine to change pan, ended up having enough room as I have the 6” Fabtech lift and Daystar 3” Body lift, don’t think the body lift does anything though for making room.
