Before anyone starts in with the "they're cheap junk" "only get Kickers" "don't waste your money" BS... I grew up **** poor and I don't have the life I have now because I throw money out the window. I heard people talk about upgrading the door speakers but I just couldn't justify $200 for the speakers I wanted. Not all of us need or want the most expensive everything and I appreciate it when someone tells me about something good that's affordable and worth the money. I know Pioneers aren't top end and I also know I'm no audiophile, I just wanted a good upgrade for not a lot of money.

First I swapped out the 3.5 Dash speakers for some Memphis Audio's and it made a huge difference. Made so much of a difference with the stock NON Alpine head unit, I thought it would be enough. Was in Best Buy and they had the Pioneer TS-G690's on sale for $25 a pair. Looked up the reviews on their website and Crutchfield and they had good reviews and even had some 5 star reviews from RAM owners. Got 2 sets and the wiring adapters for $70 and figured if they sucked, I could return them.

MAJOR improvement! If anyone's looking, they made a day and night improvement and it sounds great. I was actually surprised that it made as much of a difference as they did. As with the other upgraded speaker installs, you have to turn the treble way down and crank the bass up and your golden! They do bump hard enough that I can't see a need for a sub, but I'm not a bass head. Just thought I'd would throw this out there in case anyone was looking for a great upgrade at a great price... Well worth the $70 and hour of my time to install them.

I bought the Pioneer TSA6966R to replace the Rockford Fosgate Punch P1692 I had in my front doors. The Pioneers hit harder with less power and sounds nice. I was surprised and liked them so much I kept them. I have Infinity Reference in the back and Polk Audio in the dash. I love my setup and I have 8.4 without the Alpine.

In my opinion, Pioneer always have made a solid product. Only head units that I will buy.
As far as speakers go, they have four levels. The "G" series is their entry or budget level. Good speakers with quality sound and a good upgrade from factory.
The "A" series is the kinda mid level. Better cone material and a lower distortion rate. Really good sound and solid bass response.
The "D" series is the best as far as their standard line goes. Cones are made with basalt rock fibers that give added strength and deep bass response.
Their "M" series are the top of the line and have the price tag to match. Meant for the true audiophile and high end audio installations.
There are a lot of good speaker manufacturers out there but really the best speaker is the one that sounds the best to you. If a $25 speaker sounds better than the $75 speaker, then that is one you need to buy.
I think you did good with your Pioneers. They will sound good and last a good long time.
Enjoy the tunes!

I didn't know the speaker grade info... thanks for posting that. I haven't upgraded speakers or a head unit in so many years, I didn't know what was what when I picked them up. More often than not, the price point does play into how impressed or unimpressed I am with something. For the sale price of $25 a set, I'm impressed.

I posted my disclaimer at the beginning because it seems like people crucify you if your not following the herd. "The Pentastar? Gotta have KO2's! Why run 3:21 gears? Amsoil is the only way to go!" You get the point lol. I think someone cheap like me or on a budget would be very happy with them.

I just ordered four of these today to run off the 8.4AN. I was debating these, the shallow Pioneers, the 77KICK sets, or the Kicker CS's... Decided to start with these and see how they sound before dropping several hundred (or more :).

I wish we could find out the actual output wattage of the Harmon 8.4's, but I can't find that spec anywhere. More of a curiosity thing than anything at this point.

I factory speakers have 15 watts on the back. Wasn't sure if that was 15 watts maximum or RMS. At any rate... the 8.4 runs them great. I can't remember what song was on today but the have enough tight bass that the side mirrors were steadily shaking. Originally when I just did the dash speakers I thought that was a big improvement and thought that was enough. I'm glad these were on sale and I got them. The improvement was even bigger.

I have Pioneer TS-D6902R 6"x9" 2-Way Speakers in the rear.
In the front a set of Pioneer 3 way 6.5 speakers. TS-A1671R

They sound good to me, esp. if you give it any volume.

I went ahead and ordered a pair of Kicker KS 3.5's for the dash as well, decided I might as well do all 6 at once. I saw Pioneer has an A series 3.5 but it's not in stock in most places (I think it's discontinued) but also it didn't show up in the fit list - although I suspect it would fit not problem, there's not much to a 3.5. But so many Ram owners go with the KS so I just grabbed those as they were on sale, with free Metra connector's as well.

Did you need any spacers to make them fit? Thinking about stopping by on my way home and seeing if there are any in stock.

For the front 6X9 I went with TS-A6966R Pioneer speakers that were 2 3/4" in depth. They dropped right in no problems. Crutchfield says the TS-G690 speakers are 2 13/16" deep. Probably would fit.

It's an easy install.

Just thought of something... you guys have the Alpine system, or the non-Alpine stereo? I don't think these will work with the Alpine setup... they are rated at 4 OHM.

I have the NON Alpine system. And as far as installation goes... They dropped right in with no trouble. I think it might have took me 15-20 minutes per door at a casual pace.

Seeing those speakers on Crutchfield for $29 a pair makes me want to order for the doors and cab corners since the connectors will come with them. I am unsure about the dash speakers, probably the Kicker CS series with the resistor soldered into the adapter to balance them out, I've heard they can be overbearing without adding the resistors.

Do you have a link to where this resistor trick is described?
