Why are there so few 6’4 long beds out there?

Purchased a 2017 Ram 1500 Sport crew cab with the 6’4 bed. And I barely see any other ones out there, most everyone else goes with the short 5’7 bed.

I love my long bed, rides really nice. Just curious what the opinion are out there on short vs long.

I don’t really use my bed much, just love driving a truck. But it sure is nice to have for when I’ll need it!

Have a 2003 Quad cab w/6-4 box. Also have a 17 crew w/5-7 box. Both are the same length and fit in my garage. Looking to trade the 03 for a 2020 crew w/5-7 box. It will be 3.5” longer but will still fit in my garage. A 2020 crew w/6-4 box is too long.

I have an 04 2500 with a 6'4" but I think of it as short. I also have an 82 F-250 but it has an 8 foot bed which is the best, full sheets of plywood fit.

6'4" long bed? I call it medium as 8' beds are long beds. Even my old 93 Dodge Dakota had an 8' bed. The extra length on my pick ups has come in handy too often, especially when I added two sleeping beds and cabinets to the camper shell.

6'4"? That's not a bed. This is a bed. Couldn't even fit it in this picture. :)

But see, most people who need a bed that long, don’t need that much cab space, either. That’s why you can only get that 8-footer with the standard cab.

I had a 2003 Hemi Regular cab long bed. In those days the regular cab was almost a quad in depth. Loved it. Then my '11 Ford SC long bed ecoboost. With these two I would haul my motorcycles in the back and risk the ramp ride to get them loaded. Never fun. My Ford just barely fit in my garage. Barely. Now I have a Crew cab RAM 2019 Laramie longhorn with 6' 4" bed. Perfect. One foot shorter than the Ford. Turns shaper than the Ford and easily fits in my garage. Much easier to park.

So when bicycling down in Chandler Az I realized why the 5'7" was so popular. On the new housing developments the distance from the garage door to the side walk fits that truck perfectly. The 6'4" would be out in the side walk.

I have a CC short bed mainly because of parking at work. I stick out even with a ccsb. I would love to have the cclb as that extra few inches of wheelbase would improve towing.

I’ve got a 2015 1500 sport crew cab 6’4” box. I’ve had people in traffic ask if it’s a 6 footer crew cab and one guy asked if it was for sale!

Doesn’t fit....anywhere, garage parking stalls anywhere.

Fits a quad in the back.

Great truck.

Ok thanks for the replies, most of which had me chuckling... you guys are great!

So I will come right out and say, yes I’m a truck Noob and hereby gracefully withdraw my comment of the 6’4 being a long bed.

I never really researched the bed size before finding my truck. Guess I lucked out as I really enjoy my 6’4 as well as the utility it brings.

Great site!

Well, unless it’s a regular cab, the 6-4 bed is the long bed in the half-tons.

Regular Cabs come in all 3 bed lengths although finding a regular cab with a 5’7” bed is like a finding a unicorn.
Quads and C/C’s come in the short (5’7”) and the (6’4”)

They do? Then why does Ram only list the 6.4' and 8' bed with a regular cab?

Only the CC comes in both bed lengths, the QC is not available with the 5.7' bed.

I made sure my 2018 had the 6'4 bed. The short one is useless.

Congrats, and yeah I like the 6.4 bed as well. I came out of a Tacoma, and man night and day difference.

I have the same truck/color in a sport model. Up here there are lots of crew cabs with 8 ft. boxes, thank God for back up cameras, a huge help parking in my garage that is not much longer than the truck. I need box space, not back seat space.
