I just ordered an Autometer 4379 AFR Gauge to aid in tuning and i have a question about installing the 02 sensor and a wiring question. I know i need to drill a hole and weld the **** in before the cat. My concerns are when drilling the hole w/o removing the cat how do you prevent metal shavings from going into the cat and will the small pieces of metal hurt anything? Also in the directions it calls for 2 12v sources. The brown wire (heater override) is optional but should i connect it to a switch or another keyed 12v source? Just a little confused on these two things. Once i get some insight on this and recieve my gauge i will post my DIY with pics.

Use some grease on the drill bit to hold the larger chips of metal. Then, a small portable vacuum, like those used on computers, can be used to vacuum up anything that falls through. You won't displace that much metal that it will be hazardous to your cat.

For your other 12v go with a keyed 12v so you don't create a draw on the electrical system.

Thank you. Considering there isn't much room on the driver side I plan to install it on the passenger side. Mainly bc there is a straighter section opposed to the driver side where right after the collector it turns down with about 2 or 3 inches between the stock 02 sensor and the cat.

Yea thats what i ended up doing. Just drilled the hole on the outer side of the pipe and welded it up. Wired it up to the sliding glass 12v option that i didnt have. Works like a charm but now im trying to figure out how to combine the afr with my intune to data log for tuning purposes. The gauge has a blue and black wire for data logging but not sure where to wire it up to. I read somewhere that he put his on the TPS or the or the IAC valve not sure though.

Here's a diagram if anyone has any idea's.

Does the intune have a prevision to read an A/F meter if hooked up? Never had my hands on one is why im asking. See if Sean knows since he is doing your CMR

Well i found this here so i went ahead and ordered it bc there is a provision for analog inputs on the intune. It says its for the trinity but i took a chance and ordered it for 13.00 shipped. I would have made one but the hole to plug it in is a lot smaller than a headphone jack. I guess i jumped the gun but if it dont work im only out 13 bucks. Its funny Diablosport wants 25 for it plus shipping and summit has it for 9 bucks plus shipping.

Has anyone had any issues with their AM 4379? I cant seem to get it to be consistent at all. I welded my **** on the passenger side downtube right before the cat and after the pre cat 02 sensor and welded it in a position so it and the stock 02 will get the airflow evenly. Sometimes when i start it up i get 15.5-16.3 at idle and PT, sometimes it will jump straight to max at 17.0, and if i open my e-cutout it will sometimes drop to 12.8-13.6 or it will stay at 15.5.

Both the e-cutout switch and the gauge is wired to the same 12v source(the rear slider power window plug) which i dont have that option. It is a 12v 30a wire, the cutout pulls 3a and the gauge pulls 4a.

Any help would be appreciated.

What do you mean by constant? It will jump a few points as you go around town, at idle until it settles out it may go lean to rich then plane out. At WOT is when you will see it holding a number alot better.

What i meant was when i start the truck up at idle it will go to 15.5 usually BUT if i shut it off and turn it right back on or do it whenever it may lean out to 17.0 and never move even after driving it. As for the driving part it is usually around 15.4 or so, but if im at a stop light and i open my e-cutout my afr may or may not drop down to 13.0's and stay there even after closing it. It's totally random and not consistent at all.

That is odd. Truck seems to be running fine when all of that is happening?

Running great. I got off the line with tech support and all he said is maybe its RF noise. But i have it routed away from anything i can possibly think would cause this.

Here's a few videos. I am starting to think it has something to do with how i wired up my 12v source. I connected both the gauge and the switch for the cutout to the same wire (rear sliding window) which is an option i dont have. It does have 12v only when the key is on. I am going to disconnect the switch and see how it acts with just the gauge. Any suggestions?

Redid all the wiring still no change. I have checked all the wiring and it all looks good. I don't have a clue whats going on. Its running a little lean according to the gauge 15.5 at idle but it fluctuates between 15.5-17.0 at PT and WOT. WTH is wrong with this thing or is it even my gauge? Maybe the fact i have a huge TB and the better flowing intake manifold? Sean did his part to adjust for the airflow change, and the truck runs good. But this AFR **** is ******* me off.

Who knows!!!!! :emotions133:
