'12 1500 5.7L Hemi 6-Spd Auto w/ Full Center Console (w/ Floor Shifter)

On Sunday I was driving from Morgantown WV to Ft. Meade MD (about 220 miles). At about 150 miles in we stopped for dinner. Truck was running flawlessly up to there. But after, the Check Engine Light came on, and she wouldn't shift above 4th gear (atleast that is what the dash would display after bumping the shifter). Acceleration was also really slow, seemed like the computer was limiting it. Had to drive the rest of the way like that.

Suprisingly I was still able to keep the Avg. MPG above 15. :)

The next morning (Monday) on the way to work, still had the Check Engine Light, but everything ran fine (Acceleration & Shifting).

Monday afternoon after work. All was (and still is) well. Running & shifting fine, Check Engine Light cleared itself.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?
Anything I should keep an eye on?

Thanks in advance,
Bill

That almost sounds like it kicked into limp home mode...

When it holds it in 4th gear that's the transmission sitting in limp mode and there are many reasons that it will do it. In many cases it will reset itself if you turn the engine off and restart but if it doesn't then there's something else happening and not just a momentary issue. Since you say there's an engine light on you should get the code pulled as it will be stored and it will give you an idea as to what the cause was. If it's cleared itself entirely now then it may have been a small issue that's gone or it could turn into a recurring issue, totally depends on the cause/code.

Thanks that clears it up some.

I forgot to mention that I pulled over shortly after it first happened, and Turned off & back on the truck. Nothing changed.

Anyone know if the code will still be there after a few days if it cleared the CE light itself? I'll try to get the code pulled ASAP.

stick your nose to the tranny fluid dipstick tube.
mine did the same, went to limp mode. fluid was burnt, clutches were shot, got a re-build under warranty
