So I'm thinking about doing a true dual setup by adding another borla and x pipe.

I was told the other day that a x pipe will lower the DBs and quiet the exhaust a little bit. I don't see how, but is this true?? I don't want my exhaust any quieter

True duals with an x-pipe will be a little quieter than a single exhaust because the air is moving through the pipes slower. In all honesty, I would stick with your single. I dont think your motor is moving enough air to fully take advantage of a true dual setup.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, but wasn't sure. Would I see any changes with throwing on a magnaflow y pipe? Exhaust tone maybe?

A new Y-pipe would be better than the crushed factory Y, but it is not a neck snapping improvement. If you can find a shop that will weld it up for less than $150, then I would go for it. If they try to charge more than $150 for the install, then I dont think the gains would justify the cost.

I'm thinking that's what I'm gonna do for now. I just wish SOMEBODY would hurry up and start production on some headers for my motor. The wait is KILLING me..

I have some experience with X and H pipe designs for sports cars... Tried both, read about and spoke to many before hand. The sound is different between the two. X pipe being a little more mellow sounding. Performance gains are different, but minor. Back pressure being just right from bends, pipe diameter along with either X, H, or true dual is the key. Every vehicle made has a happy exhaust piping equation for best performance results.

Thanks for the info, I think for now I'm keeping my setup how it is, and just change out the y pipe

Where did you get this information?

From past experience on vehicles that I have owned and worked on, and customers vehicles that have tried similar setups.

Is your experience with this particular engine combination?

I would consider him and a few others on here to be authorities on what works well with the gen 4 rams. Super helpful and can point you in the right direction if they don't have the answer.

Yes. We only work with hemi trucks, so all our track and dyno testing has been done on these hemi motors. My 03 hemi didnt see any gains by running a true dual setup until after I had added ported heads and a cam. With all the basic boltons, and a mild 6.1 cam, I saw better results from a free flowing single 3" system than I did from a dual 2.5". That setup made 344hp/357tq at the wheels, and that was with only a canned Superchips tune.

The OP of this thread has a 4.7 that is making alot less power than that, so going with duals would just be overkill, and that money would be better spent elsewhere.

What do you have done to your truck, and what are your concerns or doubts about a single vs duals?

Well thank you for your input.

I am trying to find out if he has specific knowledge, (testing), to this vehicle and engine characteristics to make a statement like that.

Oh gotcha can definetly understand that. I like to know the same things. I like to find out where I can spend money to find the most gains or make it myself.

I understand most people do this for the sound, I'm not necessarily looking for a louder exhaust, if it makes more power then I would be interested. I have not seen / found any pertinent information yet stating what actually makes power on these trucks.

Most, (that I have personally tested), vehicles when equipped with a correctly sized dual exhaust with some sort of "X" or "H" pipe will perform better than a two into one variety.

I'm with you. Its all about that merge from 2 to 1 though. The factory Y-pipe isnt going to get you the results you are after as it is very restrictive. For best results, you are going to want a set of longtube headers, mandrel bent 3" y-pipe, and then a nice free flowing muffler to finish it off.

We have a member here that gained 66hp by going from shorties and no tune to longtubes with a custom tune.

Before - JBA shorties, modified Y-pipe into a single 3" Magnaflow catback, and stock tuning. (307HP)

After - ARH longtubes, ARH mandrel bent 3" y-pipe w/ high flow cats, single 3" Magnaflow catback, Hemifever tune. (373HP)
