I’ll say this, for a temp fix to prevent anymore crashes, this was a good call. Long term solution, no. I’ve already talked to my service dept manager and he said if they don’t come up with a solid fix in the next 6 months, then he would honor an aftermarket replacement and install for me, since I’ve had the welds done.

So I’ll ride this out for a few months then get a synergy set up.

LoL dealer, no, service manager, yes. The sales dept wants to **** you and steal your children in a deal. The service manager owns a 3500, and thinks this recall is a band-aide till they can manufacture a better drag link. He also thinks it’s ********, but understand from the legality point if they don’t do anything right now, and someone else has this happen and dies, FCA is responsible.

He has been in talks with the Chrysler techs and they told him they were testing 4/5 replacement drag links to get the best solution.

They’re already is a better drag link adjuster available. It’s whats coming on the new HD trucks, and what’s used if a drag link fails the V06 inspection.

It’s likely a supply issue. All the new drag links are needed for trucks being built to be sold. So they can’t take those parts and issue them for a recall otherwise new trucks would be delayed.

Got my Synergy Drag Link installed today. Contacted Ram Cares on Live chat and started the reimbursement process. Emailed receipts for Link and Install.
Did you do the install yourself or have it done?? I ordered one today and submitted the receipts for reimbursement. The install looks pretty simple from reading and videos so I thought I may give it a try.

I'm not overly confident that after FCA welds up the older ones that they are going to do another recall for replacement if they have developed a new one, which I've seen nothing about anywhere. Any pics or verified posts/links that they have indeed made a new part?

They may issue another recall, they may not. Nobody really knows at this time.

The updated drag link is in the recall service procedure. Very few vehicles will actually get the updated part though.

While I appreciate the feedback, it is clear most are not understanding what FCA is offering as a solution to the drag link issue. I also didn't suggest Ford or GM as an alternative solution to this issue, which I could not afford anyway.

Per the FCA recall notifications;

They are only welding the drag links that have not worked loose.

Drag links that have worked loose will be replaced but no parts are available (this is me, the dealer will not weld, waiting on parts)

I hear what you're saying regarding a self-fix, I think Eastwood said this, "a man has to know his limitations". I don't understand the forces at work that would loosen a nut that is torqued at well over 100 foot-pounds. I'll be traveling our roads pulling our Montana weighting in at just under 24,000 pounds GCVW. I can't take the chance, regardless of how remote, that I could lose steering and cause injury or worse.

I will reach into my pocket and purchase a drag link and have my dealer install it.

I'm just completely at a loss of words at the way FCA has handled the drag link issue. When I met with my attorney to understand my liabilities, he shook his head in disbelief. I'm waiting to hear what my insurance company's opinion is.

If the adjuster nuts are loose, the sleeve is removed and the threads are inspected and measured. Depending on the measurements is what determines if a new drag link is installed, not the nuts being loose.

I had the Drag Link installed being that I am going to be reimbursed for it. Install was very easy to do though. I was in the shop with the guy doing the install.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I have a real hard time believing that FCA would reimburse for the installation of an aftermarket part. Do you have any proof of this?

If you go to the Cummins forum you will find a thread with many members being reimbursed and how to contact Mopar to get the process started. In my contact there was no issue with submitting documentation via email and was given a claim no.

I see that many are submitting claims, but has anyone actually been reimbursed from FCA. Although it would be nice, I highly doubt it.

I do believe that FCA will reimburse customers for a full liability release. But lets understand what the real issue is here. This is not new technology or a design flaw. This is classic FCA not holding their parts vendors accountable for out of spec crap parts. We see this with the manifold exhaust leaks. The cam lifter parts and the inconsistent quality control assembly issues. Lose grounds, leaking 3rd brake lights. Every one of these issues that are well documented in the forums could can be be easily corrected/resolved. But that will take a change in attitude and behavior by Management. At this time, 24% sales increase in trucks is paying the bills. When our trucks come off the assembly line, if they start, stop and steer, they go on the train. Let the dealer deal with the defects.

I was only reflecting the verbiage in the 2nd recall notification letter I received for my 2015.
