If it's such a bad idea, why do they have very explicit instructions on how to do it in the manual? I have been that good Samaritan probably half a dozen times using my 2016 F-150 to boost stranded motorists, so not the most techy truck by today's standards. I do it according to those above manual instructions but was told by a mechanic a long time ago to make sure everything electrical in the boosting truck was OFF, except for the heater fan on low, engine idling.

I too have been carrying booster packs in our vehicles but also have booster cables. Guess it's time to ditch the booster cables and just keep the newer booster packs in my roadside kit.
Every time I drive past a house fire, I notice a firetruck in front. I have concluded that the firetruck causes the housefires.

Just get the portable jump kits. I haven't used jumper cables for years and the portables work great. I disconnect right after it starts and never had the vehicle shut off after doing that.

As usual likely a Chevy issue lol

This thread reminded me to order 2 jump packs for the new Ram and my wife's new hybrid. So ordered, today.

"Explicit" instructions is the key word. Try getting EVERYONE to follow those directions TO the Tee!
This is the concept which motivated GM at least to do away with transmission dipsticks. Many folks ignored the admonition about "Cold Full" and "Hot" full being CRITICAL.
