Once jimmy got the uav to work it made me try this and Roman was able to show it could fit it was time to try
My first attempt I messed up a bezel and had too get another
...and then I said “screw this puny 8.4 UAV radio”...Itb0qe9.jpg
I think if I did this again I would have my screen up a bit higher
Less cutting of other materials in truck
I did end up cutting it in a bit higher.

I am the one lagging behind on this one. I have my pile of parts but didn't finish the install.

As an FYI, 2015 and prior BCMs do not seem to want to play along. I had to swap mine to a 2016 BCM.

These do not. UConnect 5 will have wireless AA and ACP.

Bummer. Seems a lot of work if Im still going to have to "plug in" to something.

Ill wait until you guys swap in a UConnect5 unit :)

I like this setup as you can still you all of your bottom storage tray and don’t have to do any trimming off the Centre console in a sense

Anyone want to do a write-up "How to" on the UAX? Or has that been done already?

A write up would be hugely appreciated, this literally made me sign up just to ask!

Thanks.

Jimmy wrote I few things about the mod In the interior section on page 7 of the 12.1 radio
I don’t know how to link to his comments etc
This mod is not a quick bolt on .
There is still some stuff in progress with this upgrade
If i can get my hands on another screen I might do another one up and take detailed pictures along the way of getting the screen to fit etc
One of my issues is trying to retain my guardian services As I had a 2018 with it before .

Found it here ...

It’s real and in my 2017. There’s three of us doing this right now. It requires extensive cutting of the center stack with plastic and bondo fabrication, along with trimming of the vent mounting tabs and shifter/ac outlet mounts. Need a conversion harness and some changes in the BCM.

There’s a few issues and few unknowns- the physical HVAC buttons on each side of the screen don’t work, but all HVAC controls work from the screen. The traction control on the lower switch bank stays lit, but using the button operates TC normally. Hill decent control can’t be retained because there’s no switch bank button for it on the 2019+ HDs, as it moved to the transfer case selector switch location. The aux buttons switch bank option may not work, but I’ll be testing that out. This probably won’t work on pre-2016 rams without using a 2016+ BCM.
As far as the radio itself, everything works the way it’s supposed to so far.

Do the above issues still apply I wonder?

Not sure if a 2018 Laramie with dual Zone ATC would be a useful data point or not, but I keep getting the itch to try this out if I can find the parts and... The time to do it.

Does it even work with the factory 13-18 6 pin camera or is the cvpm and new 360 camera setup required?

Center console dash surround has gotten harder to find for a reasonable price as well. ($180-$300 without anything in em. Sold my original for $100 last year).

@Mpgrimm2 I am working on getting a conversion module to get the HVAC controls working from the screen with @chrisbh17 helping out quite a bit. I have a lot of the code figured out at this point and @skuppy069 has an initial version of it. The buttons work now but there are few things still left to finalize.

The issue is that the ICS has different message IDs/messages than the screen bezel buttons. I set up a module to do the conversion of the messages. The HVAC controls still work from the "Climate" section on the screen though.

The biggest part of this mod is the extensive cutting of the center stack panel.

The rearview camera works with the 12inch screen as well. We are actually having a lot of trouble getting the radio to use the digital coax camera input.

Not trying to step on your toes or if you're even interested ... But I bet Magnus over at CustomTronix could modify/incorporate any comm changes into their existing Enzo interface with a SW update. I'm fairly sure he has already has a 12.1 Radio/bench setup that can be used for testing too.

Do you happen to have contact information for him? It may be good to give people options. I am working on making the module as cheap as possible but for folks that plan on getting the Enzo interface, it wouldn't make sense to have both.

What’s the average price for doing the swap? And does anyone know of any shops building/installing them? I’m on the east coast.
