When I lived in Arizona, whatever quick lube place I got my oil changed would ask what interval I wanted, and the oil change interval meter in the eVic would calculate that perfectly. I would always go 5000 miles with conventional oil.

This last place didn't ask me and the eVic is having a fit after 3000 miles, but I do a lot more interstate driving now in Nashville.

The oil looks fine to me. I think you can realistically go like 7500 miles between changes.

Looks are very deceiving.

You can switch it in your evic.

To my knowledge, the only thing that can be manipulated without the expensive dealership computer/hookups is to reset/zero-out the meter.

What he ^^ said. Unless you see someone plug something into the ODBC port or similar...

(and to be honest, I don't think any oil change place would want that kind of potential liability.)

There is no way to change anything with the oil change interval or how the PCM determines when it should be changed. Not even with our dealer scan tools. The only way the algorithm can be altered is through a software update.

I'll have to check, but at least in my 2017, last time I looked I didn't see anything beyond resetting it.

Gotchya, I thought you could change the mileage intervals in Rams but I was wrong again. My wife’s Hyundai can be changed so I figured most new vehicles could but guess not.

Just pick a set mileage you are comfortable with and just go with it and ignore the EVIC.

What sets a safe oil change interval is TBN, and conventional oils hold less TBN then synthetics. 7500 miles would be a reasonable interval with synthetic oil, I wouldn't support doing that with conventional oil. If you are going to do it anyway, look for conventional oils with a higher tbn like Pennzoil Yellow Bottle, you can see it is over a point higher starting TBN then average. TBN is the first line for a reason, it is very important to how long an oil will last.

With issues these hemi's are prone to like cam/lifter failures many of us like a product with pao/ester base oil with high additives and high detergents like Redline 5w30. Another issue with a 7500 mile interval is synthetic filters, if you feel like reading up on it I have an oil filter thread in my sig. Top three spots all went to spun microglass filtration, Royal Purple had the best results, Fram Ultra a close 3rd.
