Ok, since I had some time, I removed the throttle body, fuel rails, SRV, and pcv valve.

There is some internal stuff to the SRV. Anything I need to worry about while cleaning?

Also a sensor, related to the srv? Does it come out? Didn't want to break something.

TIA
That's the MAP sensor,it just twists sideways past the locking tab,i always remove it,then fill the inside of the manifold with engine degreaser, then wash the hell out of it at the local carwash, then bring it back and pour some gas in it,and shake the hell out of ,then pour the gas out,and if it's really dirty still,i'll use a stick with a rag soaked in gas to wipe out the inside of it as much as possible. They do build up a layer of crud inside them,so it's well worth spending some time cleaning the inside as much as possible.

Thanks, Rick.

Gonna soak the heads one at a time tomorrow in the parts washer I have. 3 or 4 gallons ought to do it, I think.

Then, on to the intake.

How far does the actuator for the srv move? Just 90 degrees? Want to put it back together properly.

Still have to make a setup to clean the injectors. Is there a polarity for the connections? Usually not on some solenoids, but I've seen some DC relays that have a polarity.

As long as it's unplugged and you haven't applied power to the SRV it should line up and go right back on Ed.
The injectors aren't polarity sensitive,so it doesn't really matter which way you apply 9 volts to them. If you have a wrecking yard close by,you could just cut the harness off an injector and use it,but all i've ever used is a set of small .187" female electrical clips, that'll push on the male part of the injector.

Or these with a short chunk of heat shrink over the metal ends, just to keep them from shorting out if they happen to touch, not like a 9 volt battery will create any damage, just more for peace of mind

That's about what I've been thinking to do.

I did break a locking clip on one of my connectors, thought about replacing it and using the broken one.

You are going to soak the heads in 4 gallons gas? I would reconsider that one.

Just do it outside and vent it or keep the sides open so as to not build up any stored vapor
Already done, wasn't as bad to work with as I thought. Had a cross-breeze, so that helped alot with the smell. Had some evaporation too, that helps with the leftovers.

Damn you did a wicked job on cleaning them Ed,way to go :waytogo:
Now, if only my home resurfacing works on the heads.

What is the flatness tolerance? <.004?

I dont think i have a long straightedge.

Got the injectors removed, need to rig up my battery and switch setup.

If you have a Home Depot close by,or any decent hardware store, they'll have 36" or 48" straight edges Ed

Made a setup to clean the injectors (Thanks, Rick). Waiting on my extension tube setup to dry.

Heads look good, man. One set I rebuilt in the house had a chunk of biscuit or something jammed in the spark plug hole. I didn't notice until I had them torqued down on the block. I ended up pushing it in and burning it up. Ran fine. No idea how it got there.

Thank you.

We'll se how good they are once I try my redneck resurfacing....lol.

If I can get them to about .002 or less, I'll be happy. My straightedge should be here today, so we will see where they're at to start with.

Have you checked them already with something you have on hand like a framing square? I don't believe you had any kind of overheating, they should be pretty flat.

Yes, but I wasn't sure about the edge that I was using, and it was a bit long for the space I had. My new straightedge didn't arrive yet anyway.

I figure the points between the cylinders will be the most likely to show a gap.

I did get up to 240° or so when my radiator sprung a leak right before Christmas, but I shut her down pretty quick, and had no coolant in the oil, etc.

I just have no time (or energy) to work on her after work during the week, but I do need to get her done.

Hopefully no issues, machine shop is expensive.

I hear ya. Too hot to work on things after work also. I've finally got my hobby car in a state where I'm happy with it. Killed my weekends for many months.
