Parts availability delays are not unique to eTorque and not perpetual.
There seems to have been a problem in the past with early failure of the Start/Stop batteries and I think one person on this site reported a bearing failure on the starter/generator unit.
From my perspective Start/Stop represents an increase in complexity in an already interconnected complex set of systems. In addition, long term reliability has yet to be well established. (NOTE: I recently learned of a friend who's Honda Accord had a starter failure at 50,000 miles. That this can be attributed to Start/Stop has not yet been determined.)
The REAL problem I think is much more visceral. The majority of people I've talked to find the Start/Stop system annoying, worrisome, and consider it an unnecessary complexity that's been foisted on the car buying public with highly questionable effectiveness.
