EGR code set

I have a 2010 Ram 3500 with the Cummins, towing a large fifth wheel trailer. While traveling last month, we had an incident along the highway, which left us stranded on the side of the road. We got it going again and took it to a Dodge dealer, where the PCM was determined to be bad and was replaced.

Upon resuming our travels to Colorado without further incident, and this morning I got a check engine light which showed to be an EGR code. I called a technician and was told that this code will not affect engine performance but should be checked. I would like to verify this information with this group.

The code is P049D

You need a new EGR valve. It won’t really cause any performance issues other than increased emissions. Eventually you may get another code for increased build up in the DPF.
