Engine oil and weight for 2023 5.7 Classic that won't void warranty. I've read many threads but don't have all day.

So I see that as long as it meets MS-6395 but the manual calls for 0/20 but I see most people running 5/20 reading the forums? Hadn't started the truck for over a week and when we did it was ticking loud with just over a thousand miles. Per the manual says "Synthetic Engine OilsYour engine was designed for synthetic engine oils, only use synthetic API approved engine oils.Synthetic engine oils which do not have both the correctAPI trademark and the correct SAE viscosity gradenumbers should not be used." Sounds like I can't change the viscosity?

Use what you want but, if it was me, I'd go 5w30, or 0w30 oil, either penzoil with 15 oz bioguard or redline and a royal purple filter

Your noise at start up could have been related to sitting for longer than normal and drain back ....

Yea I was thinking it may just be that noisy after sitting.

My new 2024 Warlock, sits alot between drives. I use flood mode to do initial starts. Flood mode is pressing the accelerator to the floor so it builds oil pressure before start up.

Just make certain you stop cranking and cut the switch off before you lift your foot off the accelerator

I don't know if I have flood mode. I'll look it up now.

Read the note at the bottom. This used to be in the bigger 700 page manual, but they removed it a few years back. The engines are identical to when they said 5W-30 was okay to use.

It's actually "clear" flood mode, pushing the skinny pedal to the floor while cranking the engine, shuts down the injectors,so you can start the engine if it has been flooded.Yes your truck has it.
Weird but good to know, I didn't know FI engine flooded?

Quasi related - my driveway really steep. Is it better to park nose high (pull in normal) or nose low (back in)?

Shouldn't really make much of a differance, but the sump on the oil pan and pick-up tube is at the back of the engine,so on paper it's probably better to drive on,then back on

If you’re worried about your warranty stick with what the owner’s manual says. It’s as simple as that. But if you’re more concerned about engine longevity you can dive into the oil discussion threads, then make your own decision based on the information in those threads. Just remember that while some of the information there is based on actual data, most of what you will read is based on opinion.

OP in FL he needs something a lot thicker than 0 W 20 ref heat. I run 5 W 20 PUP with 15 oz lube guard. But truck driveway princess. Due to heat here (TX), if ran more would be 5 W 30 in crankcase.

OP u need really good synthetic filter too but yeah if sitting a lot u will get a lot of drain back and procedure ref skinny pedal may help. Lots of good info in oil thread and filter thread in this forum. Do lil research make informed decision.

All above IMHO

in Areas where it seldom gets down to freezing, you can use 20 or 30 weight, the number before the W could be 0, 5 & maybe even 10. ( 5W- 20 or 30 )
the W stands for Winter.
Florida & Winter does not happen

0W- & 5W- is only called for, because of the MDS system
The same 5.7L HEMI engine in the past 2500 & 3500 model engines, did not have MDS, so they ran SAE 30 weight,as the owners manual stated

Pennzoil pp or ultra platinum is what they want you to use, that wont void warranty. If you keep getting tick, then you have a hemi tick engine, when you see they wont do squat about it it will be up to you if you want to hear it or not. Best hemi tick combo 5w30 redline paired with a royal purple 20-820 but with shortages fram ultra xg2 is suitable replacement. There is simply no replacement for redline 5w30 for hemi tick with current knowledge base, doesn't mean something else wont work, just that is the most proven. You can try lubeguard biotech which is the second best option for hemi tick, both proven with many ram forum member trucks over years and years. It has nothing to do with brand, but rather formula, those formulas are built to kill ticks, most shelf oils are not. Hemi tick is unique, so oils aren't made to address it. They tried a bit with 0w40 PUP, and somewhat successful, but most people don't want a 40 in a 5.7.

Pennzoil synthetics are the most used oil on the board.

Are you sure the bearing clearances are the same?
