Hi there. I have been having an Evap system code. It says it is a "small leak." I clear the code and it comes back a couple weeks later. I am thinking it might be the gas cap. Anyone else have this issue? And any recommendations on corrective action? New cap??
Thank you!!

Start with looking at the gasket on the gas cap and mating surface on the filler neck. If it's corroded or dirty clean it off and make sure it's seated well after. If that doesn't fix it I would just get a new cap.

If that doesn't its most likely something in the evap system that requires a scan tool with bidirectional controls to properly diagnose it...

I also have the evap code start with gas cap an if that don't work you can have a smoke test dun and of you have a leak it well show or your evap on gas tank might be bad

I was getting codes for small and med. evap leaks about 10 yrs ago .after going over the system several times I was getting ready to go get a smoke test done.i noticed I had a lot of condensation in my gas cap so I started using "heet" water remover ,I noticed after using this the condensation was gone.i cleared the code and never saw it again.

I went through the same thing and it turned out to be the "evap purge solenoid". If not the gas cap, this is the likely culprit. Common repair according to my local dealership.

I chased my leak for awhile. I would suggest, change 1 thing at a time, drive a couple weeks and a couple tanks before replacing anything else.

Gas cap, cleared codes, no light for 1 week, code came back.

Then the tank module above the gas tank, cleared codes, no light for 3 tanks of fuel, code came back.

Then the purge valve! Changed it out, cleared codes, threw the evap code 2 days later. Didn't have time to mess with it right then. Next time I filled the fuel tank, check engine light went off and it's been good for a month and 4 tanks of fuel now.
