Are you sure it's not just the lifters/lash adjusters ticking? What would it be slapping, the valves or cyl head? You would have some serious power loss if that were the case.

Since you have the 4.7L it can't be the infamous Hemi tick, so you may have piston slap.

That's impact of the piston (usually piston skirt area) against the cylinder wall. Its sideways movement of the piston against the side the cylinder bore, not up and down motion. Every piston driven engine and even most compressors have a certain amount of piston slap; usually when the engine is cold and the pistons haven't heated enough to expand. Excessive piston slap happens when the piston to cylinder liner clearance is too large; usually through wear. Piston slap usually gets quieter as the engine gets hotter.

Of course, really sloppy mismatched pistons and cylinder bores at manufacturing can also be a possibility, but I've always thought sloppy manufacturing of that sort was more a GM/Chevy thing. Their blogs are full of guys whining about piston slap.

If your noise stays as the engine warms it could be rod noise. That tends to get louder as the engine gets hotter. If a rod bearing is damaged you'll also notice your oil has a silvery look to it when you change it. You can also cut open your oil filter and inspect for metal.

But you've only got 100K miles. As I recall the 4.7's biggest problem is accelerated oil pump wear usually around 140K causing excessive lifter noise at start-up followed over the next couple of months by accelerated ring wear and burning oil.

Luck!

im talking about my 2013 4.7, haha with 46k miles, it goes away when warm... just seems a little early to be making this sound i know as engines get older the more they tend to slap, but idk...
