2100 miles into Redline 5w30 and its finally nice and quiet again. It took until 1700+ miles to get as quiet as it was before. So no more experimenting for me, Redline 5w30 is what its going to get for as long as I own the truck.

Fine looking north east rust under there!

Another note that it took a while for redline to quiet my tick as well. Our running theory is it takes that long for the moly to plate, but whatever is going on scientifically don't give up on it if you have a tick, and once the tick is fixed don't go slumming trying other oils, you will regret it.

I get my RL through Nicks Exhaust. [email protected]. Great service.

That is a very important point. Real world i can see that a engine must adapt to new blood. lol Do you realy think after several months of now understanding that my faith in Baldwin filters and RP oil needed updating,,,,that I would even consider changing/adding to my current tier 1 oil and filters.

I don’t have a tick so much as a small squeak at opp temp. Not a belt noise, diaged that today. Just bought the truck a month ago and was gonna switch to a 5w30 with a quart of Lucas oil treatment. Has anyone used the oil treatment to quiet the tick?

Lucas oil treatment has a operating visc of 124, the operating viscosity of 5w20 is 9, the operating viscosity of 5w30 is 12. I wouldn't use that product, it has tanked an engine here. I can't find the thread but a member here had his engine fail and he used lucas and the dealer said his sump was like goo.

PDF says the visc is 110, but voa's at bob's says even thicker. It will make your oil thicker then the thickest possible oil you can find anywhere. You would be much better off just running a thicker oil then running an oil thickner. It would be like doing surgery with a chain saw, yes you can cut the cancer out but you might kill the patient.

+1 ^^^^^
Just choose a quality oil and you won't need to add anything to it.

How about mixing 10-30 and 5-30 redline? Say 2 qts and 5 qts?
My last oci I mixed Redline 10W & 5W-30 at a 50/50 mix ratio and had great results with a great UOA from Blackstone .
Now I'm running 7 ea qts of 10W -30

The latest UOA on the far left dater April 2018 is the #s for the 10W & 5W mix .

Hope this helps !

My engine runs super smooth and quiet on Redline and at 55k producing pretty good wear metal results [emoji1303]
I'm at 60k now on the 10W- 30 redline and still super smooth and quiet .653c15d699131df8abb0fe7d7af43316.jpg

Several people including myself have seen that 5w30 and RL 5w30 in particular make the MDS system go in and out of 4 cylinder mode much smoother than a 5w20. Completely shoots down FCAs claim of "5w20 MUST BE USED OR YOUR HEMI WILL EXPLODE".

Update on 03 5.7 1500 230k miles. Now have about 500 miles on Redline 5-30. The experienced member warnings were correct. 1. With that many miles, changing from RP to another Tier 1 oil like Amsoil SS or Redline "may" not be a good idea. 2. When you first change to Redline, you may get a mild rotating noise on start up idle. The molly in RL needs time to coat the cam and lifters. I did find that start up internal noise did present right after the oil change. Today, no noise of any kind at start up, idle or full operating temp. Oil pressure is up 2-3 psi. Head and block temp down 4-5* from RP. At the same time, I stopped using Baldwin filters and now use either Amsoil or RP Teir 1 filters. Confident I will get another 100k out of this 5.7

Fantastic post Sir !

One thing I do really like about the Ram Forum is people helping people [emoji1303]

Don't get me wrong , there are still some folks that just love to bicker , argue and just be an ass ....this is usually because they just don't know any better because they haven't experienced the issue being discussed at that time ; however , sometimes these neverending arguing fool's are just genuine idiots .
I do think the good here still FAR out weighs the bad ...jmho [emoji1303]
