Redline 5w40 is a blue label street oil. It is good oil to. The ZDDP and clacium is a bit lower than the 5w30, 10w40 and 0w40 that i am familiar with but it still higher than all the “on the shelf oils”

Run it with confidance.

And i stand corrected, it was just the ZDDP that was a little lower. The calcium and Moly are withing the range of other redline oils.

I agree, i just know that 5w30, 10w40 &0w40 have zinc and phosphorus around 12-1300 ish. Not a deal breaker but still noticeably more. The boron is there to help in the 5w40 though

Just run the Ultra filters in the Pentastar they are awesome only fancy filter I could find for it!

You could possibly do a filter relocate, but the very fact you can get a microglass option, I would just run with the ultra.

Even though I now own a 6.7L I’m going to announce that I will be running Shell (GTL) Rotella T6 5W-40 & 8oz ZDDPlus to boost the Zinc / Phosphorus levels for a 1 year OCI.

Reason being it’s always @ a decent $$ & available almost everywhere. Most importantly it’s a Robust/Stout oil with a KickA$$ reputation with its thousands of posted UOAs.

While running a Fleetguard Stratapore or RP Filter.
Later I will be adding a single stage oil by-pass unit.

Had a change of Mind after chatting with a old friend.

Even though I now own a 6.7L I’m going to announce that I will be running Chevron Delo 400LE 5W-40. Year Round

With 8oz of ZDDPlus!

THats a good oil. Iv seen blackstone recomend that before when someone had unusually high wear numbers in a diesel. The additive levels are a bit higher than T6 if i remember correctly

^^ Many months of research was done on my oil selection. Before my purchase was made!

The #s don’t lie—->Delo has logged Millions & Millions & Millions of Diesel engine miles with very low wear #s coming back. Rotella has as well.

I just prefer the additive package of Delo 5W-40 over T6 5W-40.

Delo 400LE 5W-40 with a Fleetguard Stratapore or Royal Purple Filter will be a stellar combo for my new 6.7L CTD!

after reading though this and a few others threads on synthetic oils for a 2018 5.7 hemi in cold Pa. east coast area, it would be best to run 5w-30 or a 50/50 mix of 5w-20 & 5w-30 in winter? Would you recommend going with red line oil right from the start. I am still in break in with under 1000 miles but plan on doing an oil change at or before 3000 for the first change. Will also be going with the royal purple filter since it has been so highly recommended. I would like to combat the hemi tic right from the start. My last hemi had it around 125k but was not so hard to control with the right oil.

Fwiw , this is just what I would do .

#1 install an oil catch can ..

Then :

1 drain factory fill at about 2k
2 pour in PYB 5W-30wt at 3k intervals twice
3 then straight 5W-30 Redline for then on out unless something better comes along.

All of these above are using the RP10-48 or the larger RP 20-820 .

Just my recommendation , I'd run 2 or more short oci's on PYB 30 wt just to aid in getting some of the higher wear in metals out prior to pouring in a more expensive Redline .
If cost is not an issue then drain out the FF at 2k then go straight to Redline 5W-30 at 4k intervals until about 30k total miles when most wear in metals are out then start doing UOAS with RL 5W-30 at 6-8 k intervals.

Would running a 20 wt in cold weather help with getting you're oil temp up enough to boil off condensation if you're doing alot of short trips? Or with the thermo controlled oil cooler does it really make any difference?

I've ran 20 wt and 30wt in the winter and I struggle getting to 195 , every couple weeks I take a drive up the mountain in the winter & get my oil above 212 degrees , usually above 220 up the mountain ...
