Comming up on my first oil change for my 2009. Not knowing what type of oil the previous owner used, and the dealer i bought it from. Should I go with a synthetic or high mileage oil. I have 89250 miles on the 5.7?

I am a synthetic type of guy and run Amsoil SS, Hemi loves is and I don't have the hemi tick that is talked about so much. With that being said I believe penzoil platinum is one of the best off the shelf oils that you can get right now and not get hit with a $10 a quart charge. Hope this helps and there is a huge oil thread on here as well that a member named Burla made, I would read a bit of that to help out also.

I personally like to run Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
It allows me to just drain out a touch to put on my salad if I need.

I kid I kid... Thread about oil never go anywhere.

Not to be a Smart A$$ but--->Best @ What?

All Oils are Not created Equal but Most do a Awesome Job!

It all depends on your Bank Account and How **** of an owner you are!

Do You plan on pouring in Regular Dino Oil? Semi-Synthetic? 100% Synthetic? Full Synthetic?

How long do you plan on running your OCI? Do you plan on going by Miles or the OLM?

How much are you willing to Pay on an Oil Change?

Do you have any issue with Ordering online and having it shipped to your house? Or would you rather drive a few blocks and change your oil and filter that day?

There are alot of Very Good HM oils out there. But my honest opinion is 89K is not alot of miles-->Really no need for a HM oil yet.

Good advice above-->Burla tells it how it is.

Also If you can't sleep at night because your worrying about your oil in your truck. Visit Bobistheoilguy! {take a couple advil before!} Spend a few days reading-->There is ALOT of research and data within! Then U come up with your OWN opinion -->Why Not Everyone Else does whether it's Retarded or Makes Good Sense!

Good Luck with You Quest!!!

Over the counter you can't be the penzoil synthetics, both Ultra and Platinum but Ultra if you don't mind spending more. Ultra has the lowest NOACK I've seen which means the oil does not evaporate off like a lot of oils. When you look up the oil guy and ask for best oil, Penzoil was the top choice of all of the oil guys. However, most of them do not have the same lubrication challenges as the Hemi does. We are forced to use thin oil but it seams like are engines are crying for thicker oil that carries better film strength. In our case it may be wise to try top tier as I do myself. If you want top tier oil, Amsoil SS, Redline, or Motul are the real deal. Red the syn thread for more details.

Burla, what is your opinion about turning the MDS off and running 5w30 in the Hemi? You seem far more knowledgeable than I about motor oil, so fire away. Do you think it'll be better for the Hemi?

Well, that is what I plan on doing. I am committed to doing what I'm doing with Redline 5w20 for a while to do another UOA, but no matter how it comes back I'm likely to attempt this. Someone says the VVT also requires 5w20, but I'm not sure about that at all, in fact I am a bit suspicious that it does. Anyhow, my opinion is to further research before doing it, but I am likely to just tune off the MDS and run Redline 5w30 at the end of my current run. The increased film strength is greatly needed in my opinion from literally every single Hemi UOA I've seen. There is a lot of wear happening in our engines and my "theory" is it has a lot more to do with the weight then the quality of the oils.

Cool, thanks for the quick reply. I just turned my MDS off and I did a mixed oil change of the following: 5 quarts of 5w20 Quaker State Full Synthetic and 2 quarts of 5w30 Quaker State Full Synthetic.

Im currently running 5w30 pennzoil platinum and my mds has not skipped a single beat. I dont have vvt like you guys though thats where i dont know how sensitive it really is. Some people say 5w20 is essential for the proper operation of vvt. But thats what they said about mds...

Something else that I never see in these oil threads.

VVT works better with a high moly count. One of the SRT engineers mentioned it in one of the chat sessions.
