Feels like I'm so far ahead of the game right now. The solution for me is Pennzoil Conventional (PYB) 5w-30 and a Motorcraft fl820s filter. This is a cheap combination from Walmart and seems to have taken care of my hemi tick. For me, it's always been quiet at startup and when completely warm. A tapping develops while it was warming up. It's a lot worse if I shut down the engine and restart before it completely warmed up. I had used Pennzoil Platinum and Valvoline full synthetic advance in 5w-20 previously with mopar filter. The filter was fine but motorcraft is cheaper.

Also want to mention my Hemi also prefers 87 over 89 octane. When summer blend gas rolls around, she briefly chokes on startup when cold with 89. I gave 87 a shot and it never happens.

Moral of the story, gotta treat your Ram like a lady. Good.... but not too good.

My ram literally is telling me what it needs, hemi tick in the engine and shudder in the transmission. It's like my wife telling me, "go ahead and mistreat me, see what you get." Personally I hate paying for the "super fluids", I have never before paid for this in any other vehicle. But the transmission has always been the weak spot to FCA stuff, and with the cam/lifter issues and the action FCA took with the eco diesel at a minimum guys should do like you and go up in weight. Or take the next step and go up in weight and hearty formula. Whatever works, some of us have higher maintenance ladies then others. I know Corey's truck and my truck seams to be sisters, both a pain in the ass. Feed them the good stuff to shut the **** up.

Reading through this thread, I wonder if someone experimented with MoS2 oil additive, If the theory is true and hemi tick disappears using engine oils with high molybdenum content, then something like Liqui Moly MoS2 oil additive is a way to go.

I don't think it's just the Moly, but the Base oil and Moly working together. Oil additives perform better with synthetic oils, that being said, Redline is a true synthetic having the advantage over group 3 synthetic oil IMO.
Rule of thumb, never add a aftermarket additive to your oil. It may improve one aspect of the oil but overall it can ruin it.

Welcome to the RAMFORUM.COM.
Sir from Northeast Tennessee ( Bristol area )
Just dial back about 3-10 thousand post and you'll absolutely read up on your answer ...
Ha ha. , Just kidding [emoji16]
I won't be that guy .

To answer your Q .

Yes we have tried the MoS2 Liquid Molybdenum Many times .
I'd say it was overall ( kinda good ???)

Me personally I'm not an additive type guy ...I prefer to just use an oil that brings everything to the table ....for my particular engine application .

Again Sir Welcome to the Forum & this thread ..

Sir , PYB 30 wt is really REALY good stuff ....if I were you I'd try a RP 10 -48. Filter ....you will likely not notice a difference ...but you will have sounds on much MUCH better filter for a shipped to your door price of about an extra 6-9 $$

Can you run 4 quarts of Redline 5/20 mixed with 3 quarts of 5/30. It gets pretty cold here in winter and was wondering if the mix would be better than 5/20 or 5/30. I have been running mix of penzoil platinum 4qts 5/20 and 3 qts of 5/30 and half bottle of liquid moly. Motor is quiet but heard Redline has more moly and is a better oil. Anyone tried this?

If you don't get -20f, I wouldn't even consider that personally for the goal of cold flow. Yeah that is 5w30 redline in the middle of this test, out performs some 0w30's. Cloudiness is the first symptom of an oil failing in the cold, 5w30 redline is clear as day in -21F.

The LM stuff is a mineral oil with MoS2 in suspension. Datasheet link: https://pim.liqui-moly.de/pidoc/P000005/1011-OilAdditive-20.0-en.pdf
I am not an additive guy either but being in Europe, the Redline is for me hard to source. OTOH the Mopar 5W-20 is dirty cheap. Looking at the datasheet of Redline, it seems to be very similar to Motul X-Clean 8100 5W-30. Anyone tried the Motul stuff?

Just type Motul in the search box. It’s use has been discussed quite a few times although I don’t recall anyone using it as the vast majority of us use Redline. It does sound like an excellent oil!

Corey found all of those video's, still want to know what he was looking at in those eastern block websites when he happened by those video's. Yes a picture is worth 1,000 words. But here's a few words

I would look at the Motul 300v to compare to redline, mos2 is hit and miss at tick. I'd use Lubeguard biotech as that is the same moly in Redline and PYB, no oil uses moly in suspension anymore. A bunch of Motul have no moly in them, that is one of them. In theory the 300v should help tick similar to redline. It is a full point of operating visc lower, but it is a similar product. 300v also has a full 2 points lower hths then redline 5w30, if you can get redline it has been proven. Motul would be my second choice though, lots of moly.

I agree with Burla above [emoji1303]

If Motul 300v 5W-30 is available I'd certainly give it a try Sir !

The only one I've heard of that was trying motul was Stephen ( I think that's who it was) and he was from Sweden I think. Haven't seen him on here since he said he was gonna try it.

Truck was ticking on 10w30 redline, but once again butter smooth with 5w30 redline, both same RP filter. Note, the tick on 10w30 redline was very mild to before on orc group 3 oil, but it still was there. I just wouldn't bother with 10 winter rated redline's across the board, I believe them to use better base oils in the 5 rated weights like 5w20 and 5w30 and even 5w40. Look at hths for proof.

That's exactly what mine did, quieted down immediately, and just got better from there. Mine was never actually ticking but was just generally noisy. Buraline smoothe and quiet.
