Our engines are the same, 2009 to 2018 Rams. I use 5w30 redline with a Royal Purple synthetic filter. Read my oil filter thread in my sig, lots of good info.
Here's an oil poll of what everyone on RF uses, the two most popular are Pennzoil and Mobil 1, funny thing about that is m1 doesn't carry the ram spec either. Amsoil and Redline top out the top 4, nothing else is really close.
The reason for the redline usage here is due to it's ability to silence hemi tick. It has a very high success rate, it is like no other oil on the list. It has the highest moly content
read here, highest zinc rates 2002 levels, pao/ester base, see chart below for the difference. Hemi tick condition will likely be creating heat in that spot, see what polylol esters can do. PAO is known as Polyalphaolefin, you can also see what it can do in cold and hot conditions.
Read the first post in this thread if you haven't, H395 did us the favor of recording it and recording his entire lubrication journey for the forum. He is not a "redline" guy, he actually uses Amsoil in the diffs and his wife's car if I'm not mistaken. But redline killed his hemi tick, and mine, and many many guys on the board. Just off hand tj, david ram, U&A, tidesfan, and many many others, sorry everyone my memory was the second thing to go after my eye sight when I hit 50. We stopped keeping track after 20 guys had their ticks killed by redline, but we probably shouldn't have, we probably should have recorded it better, but to be honest it isn't a big deal, it is only trying it one time to see if it works, if not so what you have to change the oil anyway.
Nick@gotexhuast is where literally everyone on the board buys redline from, he is cheaper then the redline website and last info was if the order is decent he sends free shipping with it, PM him and verify, I'd get a least a case of 12, it comes in a nice box. I don't care what oil you use, if you use something else and it kills hemi tick we want to know about it. Perhaps one of the shortcomings in our testing is we didn't test as many options as we should have. Oils like Motul 300v is also similar technology.. GL, Burla
