Anyone running a custom equal length Y pipe? I've read that the unequal length will affect the exhaust pulse merging at the Y. It will affect the sound and also potentially performance if the pulses bounce back to the engine.

I remember running my truck open headers after installing my ARH LT and it sounded mean as hell, but after installing the catted y-pipe it just wasn't the same. I always attributed the sound change to the cats, but after listening to a few catless truck I'm suspecting the unequal length of the y-pipe.

I doubt the costs involved in building a mandrel bent equal length Y pipe, will justify the gain. It'd be a work of art to package an equal length Y pipe under a Ram,with-out it hanging down underneath the transmission or transfer case if so equipped. You could header wrap the long side of the Y pipe, which will help keep heat and velocity up in the longer pipe, while at the same time keeping heat off the tranny pan if your Y goes under the tranny.Curious on why you kept the cats, does Quebec do emission inspections now?

There's no inspection, but the smell without cats would have been a problem for the local law enforcement.

Yeah adding more pipe on the passenger side to equal the length will be an issue. I'll read more on the subject, but was curious if it could affect the tone of the exhaust or it was just in my head.

Just ordered a Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator, hope it will remove some of the higher frequency and be able to use a smaller muffler with it. Maybe that will satisfy me while I wait for a cam.
