Has anyone ever seem this document? It's from ZF themselves and it's their recommended procedure for a fluid change on a ZF 8HP trans. I find it interesting that it makes no mention of leveling the trans flange as we see mentioned on here so often. It actually states the vehicle should be in a horizontal position on the platform. I'm planning on doing a trans fluid change on my Ram soon and this seems to add some confusion compared to what I normally see here.

I changed my trans fluid on that trans a year ago, purchased a tran pan and filter (dorman) from rock auto, I did level the truck on jack stands, that is a must to ensure a proper level fill, when you get to the last stage of the procedure below , It work 100 % no problems since Torque Specs as 10Nm (7.38 Ft/Lbs) 88 inch lbs.
on Plastic Trans Pan Bolts and 30Nm
(22 Ft/Lbs) on Fill Plug as well as 264 inch lbs
the tightening pattern on new Pan when installing.
start 30 c finish 50 c
You must disable your traction control before installing new fluid.
After you change out the transmission pan and filter the transmission
needs to be below 86°F when you first start installing your
transmission fluid and tires must be off the ground and truck must be level.
Add transmission fluid until it starts to dribble out then put
drain plug back in. With brakes applied place transmission in
reverse and hold for five seconds, place the transmission in drive
and hold for five seconds, release the break slowly and accelerate
to second gear and hold for five seconds, apply the brakes and place
the transmission in neutral, raise the engine speed to 2000 RPM for five seconds,
return engine to idle and place transmission in park, remove fill
plug and fill transmission until fluid dribbles out and then install drain plug.
All these steps need to happen before the transmission reaches 122°F. 50 o c
If you go past 122° the transmission fluid will start to expand
and you will not get a proper fill. !!!
