Hey, I'm new to this forum and relatively new to Rams. I've been interested in adding a Stage 2 CAI from AFE power to my 2012 RAM 5.7 as well as a few other things. I understand the results won't be nearly as great as they advertise. Buy does anybody have one of these systems? Pros and cons?

I prefer the vararam, but a lot of people run the s&b.. I believe vararam to have the best gains. Had it for 3 years now in all sorts of snow and rain , never had any problems.

I dont have a hemi, but i have read that the stock air system delivers more air than the engine can use. I dont know how that is because where it draws its air, it is very restrictive.

Any intake that utilizes the same airbox and intake as the stock really wont do anything. If its drawing air from the same spot as the stock. Veraram i heard is the best. Also I think Volant has a intake scoop that drops to the lower end of the engine bay to get better air flow. That may work aswell.

But again, if it utilizes the same air setup, you may see Very very minuscule difference, and not enough for me to spend 300-400$$

Awesome, I'll start looking into both of them a little more.

I am also going to do some exhaust work. I was thinking of upgrading headers. And I was going to go with some jba shorties, but I had read a little about some folks loosing low end torque with minimal top end gains compared to stock.

Shorties aren't for top end but they should help the bottom end some.

I've used the JBA's on two different vehicles with SB V8's and found them to be excellent for that application. Just don't open up the catalytic converter or exhaust too much downstream of the headers and you should be fine.

I think I'm going to hold off on the headers for now.
I am however sold on getting a vararam, ported 87mm tb, Diablo I2 and a Mufflex 14". Now to go get some lotto tickets to make it happen fast lol

I always wondered why nobody runs the AFE intake. The Vararam and S&B are nice. AFE makes some quality stuff too.

Yeah, my vote is go with the Vararam or the S&B. Welcome to RF. I had JBA's headers on my 06 and the guy that did it said it was a pain in but B*** on the driver side to install.

I used to run AFE on all our Rams, but started to notice quality wasn't as good as they were originally. great products at first but S&B far exceeds the quality, fit and finish and price. Granted this is just my personal experience and opinion so take it with a grain of salt...

But the Vararam is great performance wise but for its price if I were to do it again I would do the S&B even though I love the retro look of the vararam. wasn't all that impressed with the "visual
