Great post Sir !
My truck was just a LOUD Engine imo on whatever was in it from the factory and the free dealer oil changes . I've used Redline oils for over 20 years in most everything I've owned and have always had great results , so naturally after the free dealer oil changes I went to Redline 5W-30 and my 5.7 L Hemi is like a different engine just butter smooth and quiet as a church mouse ...even at a drive through !
I tried Redline 0W - 40 mixed 50/50 with Redline 5W-30 and had the same quiet and smooth results . I'm now using Redline 10W -30 as it has a bit more Molybdenum, zinc and phophorus , I'm liking the 10W-30 so far , but I'll probably just end up with the 5W-30 year round in my 14 Ram .
My wife's 16 Challenger is super quiet and smooth on Redline 5W-30 as well .
Obviously neither have any mds issues as this BS has been proven many times it's not an issue to run a 30 wt oil in these engines .
Many folks including myself have ran 40 wt oil with zero MDS issues .
Great post Hemi , looks like you've found your oil Sir ! [emoji1303][emoji1303]

How long has redline been in engine and is it still ticking? What filter are you using as well. Oil full on dip stick? Yes 5w30 has been proven the best in the lineup for the 5.7 for tick. Interstate speeds and redline mix really really well, good time heat and pressure to quiet loud spots.
5W-30 Redline coupled with the RP 10-48 Filter imo ..[emoji106][emoji106]My 14 sport has that hot tick now. Never noticed it before. I did have a right rear manifold bolt break. Dealer fixed. It's back again on startup. Truck has 116000 mi.
I've been running 5-20 full synthetic. I've recently switch all fluids over to redlion. All diffs, and now tranny to except for engine oil.
Would it better to go with redline 5-20 or 5-30, since it has high miles. I also tow alot and travel at high interstate speeds.
If you could post Before and After videos we all would be greatly appreciated. Best place to get audio/video is from under one side of the truck.Just got a new to me 2013 5.7 Hemi Ram Laramie 4x4. Just heard the tick for the first time, pretty loud and a bit unnerving as I hadn't seen any posts about til today. I've got 73k on the clock and 2k until the next oil change. Should I go ahead and get it done now or is it something that will not damage the motor?
Didn't change the oil yet. Last night I added a bit of Lucas Oil Stabilizer to the oil....stopped it in it's tracks. Didn't get a video of it, but if it shows back up I will. I'll either go with the Redline 5w30 or the custom mix, not sure yet. Got the Lucas fix from a search on Hemi Tick in the Challenger Forums. One member said it worked in both his truck and the car. Also a couple of Jeep guys talked about it. Definitely a short term thing for me though. I want the better oil in the truck.
I'd say this, whatever kills the tick is a good idea assuming not clorinated parriffins, but the higher quality things are a better choice and should be tried first. The viscosity at operating temp is 110, see here pdf. So operating viscosity of 5w20 goes to around 9, and 30 weight goes a little past twelve, so your lucas is ten times thicker then 5w20 and then some, make it over twelve times thicker then 20 weight. So does that still sound like a good idea? The heaviest gear oil you can get is 250w, and it has a cSt or operating temp of 28, so you are adding something 4 times thicker then dragster gear fluid to your engine. Lucas would be the last thing I tried to kill my tick, only prolong type additives are worse.
