Because tranny oil is so thin, I wouldn't worry about it, any engine bypass will be good enough I'm sure. The only issue is that thread needs to hit but plate. So the thread that is in the filter is key, because of the relationship between the filter and the housing, it can't be off at all even a leak at that spot I bet you loose a ton of line pressure.
The seal is made with the O-Ring though so as long as that seats you should be good right?
