6 months from now you'll stumble across it,and wonder what the hell does this chain fitI got all the other parts, Rick. Phaser, crank sprocket, tensioner, guide, etc. No chain.
Crazy.

Hunt up some pipe dope/sealant with PTFE Ed,as it's a NPT plug.Finished lapping my valves, removed the phaser, and pulled the driver side oil galley pipe plug there was still some oil toward the rear. I did not see anything else in there, buildup, etc.
There was some sort of sealant on the plug, which I likely don't have. I believe its a tapered pipe plug.
Can I use some blue loctite, or do I need to go buy something else.
I'm gonna leave the passenger side galley plug alone, being that driver side was clear as far as I could tell.

Odds are it wouldn't leak oil past the threads with blue loctite, but if it did,it really suck having to pull it down again just to reseal a leaking pipe plugFrick
It'll probably work perfectly fine Ed.I use either ARP thread sealant or Loctite 592 thread sealant, neither one has ever let me down, but the Permatex brand is probably just as good.I grabbed this, got home and realized it's not ptfe, but it's for pipe threads.

Says seals threaded metal fittings on hydrauluc, pneumatic, fuel, and cooling systems.
Is this ok? Or, am I going back to the parts store?
Yea, I went on the Permatex website and looked at that stuff. Website says, "contains PTFE". I don't see it anywhere on the package, though. It'll probably work perfectly fine Ed.I use either ARP thread sealant or Loctite 592 thread sealant, neither one has ever let me down, but the Permatex brand is probably just as good.

It'll be perfectly fine Ed,i wouldn't worry about it.It's probably virtually identical to either the Loctite or ARP versions of thread sealant.Yea, I went on the Permatex website and looked at that stuff. Website says, "contains PTFE". I don't see it anywhere on the package, though.

I might just as well pull the passenger side plug now. Ed luck says if I don't, there'll be an issue.....lol.It'll be perfectly fine Ed,i wouldn't worry about it.It's probably virtually identical to either the Loctite or ARP versions of thread sealant.

I heard that. Temps here weren't too bad. At least it wasn't blistering hot like a couple weeks ago.I've been out checking the brake caliper slide pins for proper lube. I put new slotted rotors on front a while back, but couldn't remember if I checked the pins or not.
Whether I did or not, the front drivers side had enough lube to last 20 years, so I didn't bother to check the rest, as all the boots looked good.
That, and the humidity feels like it's 125%. I didn't do much and look like I fell in the river.
I tried to convince myself that it would be ok to use the old valves and rocker arms, even when various members here suggested replacing them, but deep down I knew it was best. It's a lot of money we sometimes don'r have to do the job right....BUT....If we skipped a step we knew deep down we should have done, from then on, every noise or hiccup, you would be wondering and worrying if that's the part causing that you should have replaced.
Been there, done that.....
My dad used to shortcut repairs on his cars sometimes. I would try to talk him into doing it right, which occasionally worked, especially if I finished the job.
He would get ticked when I would pull out the old line..."If you don't have the time to do it right this time, when will you ever have the time to do it again when it breaks".
